Here’s what she has to say about getting your sleep back on track with some simple nutritional advice:

Getting a good night’s sleep is really effected by what we put into our body on a daily and weekly basis. We all know that too much caffeine can damage sleep patterns and promote insomnia.  A build up of toxins from non organic foods, pollutants and chemicals all around us can seriously damage how well we sleep. Many clients come to us at Raw to Door for a long detox for help with insomnia and we haven’t had a client say yet that they haven’t slept better after a few days of releasing toxins.

We can also encourage a good night’s sleep by eating foods that contain magnesium, which helps muscle relaxation and encourages the body to sleep well. Almonds supply enough protein to help stabilise your blood sugar level while sleeping. They also help your body switch from your alert adrenaline cycle to your rest-and-digest cycle. Eat just a handful of soaked almonds (this activates the almonds thus providing more nutrients) or a tablespoon of almond butter at least one hour before going to bed to fall asleep faster. Adding a good source of fats such a chia seeds, flax seeds eating oily fish such salmon are also important for getting a good nights rest. Cherries contain a good amount of melatonin, the chemical that helps control the internal body clock. We use the juice in juices and smoothies to help the team at Raw to Door get a good night’s sleep when we have a busy few days and need a good rest. Here is our Sleepy Smoothie below:

 

Sleepy Smoothie

150 ml – Home made almond milk (recipe link here http://rawtodoor.com/blogs/blog/15478045-nuts-about-mylk

100 ml Coconut Water (unsweetened)

Handful of cherries (pips removed)

1 tsp chia seeds

1 tsp flax seeds

3 ice cubes

Place all the ingredients in a high speed blender such as a vitamin-a-wiz for 30 seconds then enjoy !
