Rockett St George Bedroom Guide: Guest Blog

RSGGuestBlog for Kiss the Moon

If anyone knows how to create a beautiful bedroom, it’s Jane Rockett – co-founder of design and homeware store Rockett St George.  With a style that’s eclectic, glamorous and full of touches of comfort. Who better to give us the inside line on how to create a perfect sanctuary for sleep?

“There really is no place like home. Where else can you build duvet nests on weekends and lose your socks to the black holes that are underwear drawers? We love to create personalised sanctuaries in our own homes and treasure the idea of our bedroom being the ultimate retreat.

Wrapped in a blanket on a soft bed, candles lit and surrounded by your favourite things – what more could you need? Whether flung across the bed or wrapped around your shoulders, soft throws are a staple for all bedrooms. Never underestimate the feeling of getting snug after a hard day’s work (slippers and wine optional) and snuggling into your favourite blanket in your favourite spot. It can’t be beaten! Right now we are all infatuated with curly sheepskins and cushy throws, perfect for a more relaxed look. I would choose slate greys and warm stone coloured tones to add a cosy sophistication to the room.

My haven could not exist without the perfect bed linen. More comfortable with every wash, you are destined to sink softly into a slumber with our bed linen from The Linen Works (I have a set for every room in the house!). For a brighter, lighter deluxe feel I usually combine our Cassis Rose cover with other muted tones, or the classic white never fails to impress set against a dark charcoal backdrop. Find the textures and tones that suit you – it is your space after all!

For a quirky extra I like to personalise my room with ornaments. At the moment I complete this look with the serene presence of our decorative sitting Buddha – It’s my favourite new item.

It may seem obvious, but to truly transform your bedroom into a haven candles are the simple solution. Oxidised and smoke glass tea light holders give my room a soft and atmospheric glow – ideal for the closing in of chilly autumn and winter nights. Blending smoky greys with metallic silver beautifully illuminates the Buddha statue and add even more warmth to my newly revived and relaxed safe place.”
