DELICIOUSLY DARK BATHROOMS

DELICIOUSLY DARK BATHROOMS

We've fallen in love with these deliciously dark bathrooms. Each one uses some design thinking to turn the littlest room in the house into a perfect den for after dark bathing. We've chosen a few of our favourites to share. We hope they inspire you to create the bathroom of your dreams

1. Dark wood and painted tubs

We love the feel of this room. The slightly battered dark wood floor and inky coloured, free-standing bathtub make it feel grown up and interesting. By keeping everything simple, the space feels relaxing and calm. We'd love to close the shutters, light some candles and happily spend some time soaking it all in

2. Gorgeous in grey

If you are tempted to go dark, but feel that black is a step too far, then explore the world of grey. These pigeon-coloured walls ooze class and set the stage for the glamour of the gilt mirror and the chandelier. We love this oversized black bath mat. It ties the whole look together and keeps things comfortable underfoot.  (Find extra large bath mats here - available in black and a whole host of other colours.)

3. Heaven & earth

We think the clean, white-tiled walls anchored with a dark floor and painted black ceiling work really well in this smart little bathroom. The dashes of black on the shower frame, generous sink and chunky mirror feel right at home. Together they make for a no-nonsense room that is confident and user-friendly. For mirrors a bit like this, check out the Carter range at grahamandgreen.com (- you'll have to add your own rope mind you)

4. Paper power

There are some amazing wallpapers out there, including a good sprinkling in lovely, dark hues like this one. While you might be a little brave to put it behind your sink, a wallpapered area is a good way to bring some drama in to your bathing space.  We love this Peroquet wallpaper by Nina Campbell

5. A door to die for

If you want to leave the walls alone, think about adding a dash of dark via your woodwork. This high gloss black door is tall, dark & handsome. The brass fittings do the rest of the job to create a space that's smart and stylish. Check out the beautiful brass fixtures and fittings available from fermliving.com for a bit of inspiration

6. Jewel coloured gems

Swoon. What's not to love about these peacock-blue tiles? Keeping the radiators and paintwork dark ensures the whole effect runs together smoothly. We bet that bathing here would be like floating inside a beautiful dark shiny shell. We've seen emerald green work just as well. Jewel-coloured tiles give a lovely punch of drama to small spaces. Check out the Bon Bon range from firedearth.com - they have a teal-coloured tile that we think would look amazing by candlelight
