GUEST BLOG: SAY IT WITH FLOWERS from DENBY

Want to treat your mum with a flowers this Mother's Day? We have teamed up with Denby to create a beautiful gift bundle in our Mother's Day Competition. In this blog post, Hayley Baddiley from Denby shares with us four of the best flowers to use in a floral arrangement for a wellbeing boost, and gives us her top presentation tips

Flowers are undoubtedly a classic Mother's Day gift, and it's easy to see why. They're beautiful, smell fantastic, and can even be paired with a stylish new vase. And if you make the bouquet yourself, this can make for an eco-friendly gift too. But these aren't the only benefits of gifting flowers this Mother's Day. One bonus which you may not have considered is the wellbeing benefits that a gift of blooms can bring

Research has found that flowers in general have both an immediate impact on happiness and a long-term positive impact on people's moods (About Flowers). On top of this, the flowers can be used in a number of self-care methods. If you're looking to craft a beautiful bouquet and give mum a wellbeing boost at the same time, make sure to include the flowers below in your floral arrangement and use the presentation tips to wow mum with the display.

Roses

Roses are a fantastic flower to gift to mum this Mother's Day. Not only are they incredibly beautiful to look at, but they can be used in a number of ways for self-care too. Once the bouquet is at its end, the petals can be used to sprinkle in baths for a long, calming soak, or turned into a facemask for a relaxing at home spa experience

To make the most out of the floral arrangement, give mum a recipe for rose tea alongside the bouquet so she can use the elegant petals to the fullest. As well as being a tasty treat, rose tea is rich in vitamins and antioxidants (Organic Facts). The petals can also be used to make rose water, by simply adding them to a pan of boiling water with a bowl floating in the middle, popping the lid on the pan, and allowing the water to condense into the bowl. Rose water can be used as a facial toner, or even added to sweet recipes like Victoria sponge to give it a lovely floral flavour.

If you opt for bright colourful roses, like red or yellow variations, these will work well with a vase in neutral colours, such as beige, cream, or white so there isn’t too much colour to make the arrangement overwhelming. Roses also work very well in jugs. This is a more rustic look, which is perfect for mums with quaint, farmhouse style homes.

If your mum can’t get enough of rose-scented products, why not push the boat out and get her a couple of extra rose-related gifts? The LOVE range available at Kiss the Moon has a fantastic selection of rose products, including the LOVE After Dark Pillow Mist and the LOVE Night Cream for Hands.

Lavender

When we imagine a relaxing smell, for many of us our minds will automatically go to lavender, and it's easy to see why. This soothing scent is often used for helping people drift off, which is why it's often a key ingredient in many sleep mist sprays and calming teas.

And just like roses, lavender can be used once the bouquet is finished in a number of ways. The flowers can be dried and used as potpourri so your mum can get the benefits of the scent for as long as possible. Or to help her get a good night's sleep, she could use the old lavender to create a scent pillow to help her drift off.

If you're looking to add lavender to your bouquet, it works well with flowers in pastel shades, like peonies and light pink roses. Alternatively, make lavender the star of the event and simply surround it with green foliage. Lavender works well in barrel vases as they sprawl out the side so don't get drowned out by the wide body of the vase. Purple and blue shades complement each other beautifully, so a floral arrangement with lavender will work beautifully in a blue barrel vase.

Jasmine

Jasmine has a lovely sweet and rich scent, making it a fantastic addition to a Mother's Day floral arrangement. And as it's white, it works well with a number of flowers and colour palettes too. On top of this, jasmine also has wellbeing benefits. Just like lavender, this gorgeous and relaxing scent can improve sleep quality, as well as improve alertness in the daytime (Psychology Today).

Once the bouquet is finished with, jasmine flowers can be dried and used in potpourri to enjoy for longer. These dried petals can also be used in a number of homemade beauty products, like toners, body scrubs, and face masks, for a well-deserved self care pamper session.

As jasmine flowers are white, they work well with vases in a range of colours, including blues, pinks, and neutral tones too. If you're looking for a beautiful bright floral bouquet so your mum can brighten up her home this spring, display your jasmine bouquet in a lovely light blue vase.

Chrysanthemums

If you're looking for something a little different to add to your Mother's Day bouquet, chrysanthemums may be just what you need. These flowers have a more earthy scent rather than a sweet and floral one, and they come in a range of bright and beautiful colours. Not only do these colours make a floral arrangement look great, but they're lovely and vibrant too, so they're sure to make a space feel more alive and boost the mood of anyone who sees the beautiful bouquet.

The flowers can also be used once the bouquet is coming to its end. If your mum is looking for ways to wind down in the evening, encourage her to make a relaxing cup of chrysanthemum tea by simply pouring hot water over dried chrysanthemum petals.

Just like colourful roses, bright chrysanthemums will work well in a vase in neutral colours. They can be displayed in both long and short vases, so make sure to consider your mum's personal taste when deciding which option to choose.
