Pop smarter
Hands up – who wants popcorn without the packaging? Microwave popcorn bags are lined with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)—bad for the air and bad for you. Instead, pop the old-fashioned way in a pan on the stove with a thin layer of vegetable oil. Netflix at the ready.
Stock up your freezer
It takes a lot more energy to cool an empty space, so keeping your freezer fully stocked is more eco-friendly and will save you time and money
Choose cast-iron cookware
To make pans non-stick, manufacturers apply chemicals called fluoropolymers. Some studies have shown that this layer can release potentially harmful chemicals in to the air when you cook at high temperatures. A well-seasoned cast-iron pan side steps the issue and will last you a lifetime.
Embrace Meatless Mondays
Eating less meat isn’t just good for your health, it’s good for the planet. The meat industry generates nearly 20% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions, reports the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization.
Get a fig plant
Fig (or to give them their proper name – ficus) plants can help keep our homes free from harmful chemicals and microbials but filtering the air and sucking up harmful pollutants emitted from paint, carpets and furniture.
