It’s that time of year again. The asparagus is out.
Reputed to be an aphrodisiac, this ancient vegetable is remarkably nutritious. Loaded with Vitamins A, K & C (good news for skin health), it’s also a good source of tryptophan (an amino acid that when ingested gets turned into the neurotransmitter serotonin and then converted into the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin).
Because the British growing season is so short, it’s something to get excited about when it does appear. Whip it in to a soup or, for something totally moreish, wrap each stem in prosciutto and grill, pan fry or bbq. Serve alongside soft boiled egg for a perfect Spring sunday brunch.
